Axonometric Study, 2005 Wall installation, vinyl on glass. 4.5 x 4 M This work is shown installed at the Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City (left) and at Fusebox, Washington, DC (below). For the Arte Alameda exhibition, the work was installed on the glass partition located in the museum's entry lobby and showed the main public spaces of the museum (a former convent built in the 16th Century) rendered as an axonometric projection. The former convent's friezes, pilasters, and arches have been stripped away, leaving a series of clean, simple volumes. This work's drawing form, its colour scheme and its pared-down depiction of space, all contribute to a kind of "Modernist make-over" of the pre-Modern building. At Fusebox, a 3D schematic of the exhibition space was installed on the gallery's glass facade. Both installations function like orientation maps, penetrated by the viewer as they pass through the door and enter the exhibition.
