in the studio I’ve been studying different concrete reinforcement techniques—working with metal meshes and rebar—as well as experimenting with different mixtures, dyes, and aggregates. Six Formes evolved from my research into molded concrete. I started the fabrication process with pencil-on-paper plans, which are then digitized in a 3D program and then 3D-printed (see drawings and model, at right.) The fabrication of Six Formes was directed by Art Project in Millery, near Lyon, with the hand-made concrete form-work and molding executed by IdBat in Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans (see documentation of fabrication process at right). The flat “connecting surfaces” between the six sculptures were bush-hammered with a pneumatic hammer, then treated with acid (shown at right). The sculptures are designed to withstand vandalism and graffiti, with the smooth surfaces treated with a special varnish that will protect the pieces, but also allow moss and other plant life to adhere to the surface.

Dans mon atelier, j’ai étudié les différentes techniques de préparation du béton avec mailles métalliques et barres d’armature et expérimenté différents mélanges, colorants et agrégats. Mes plans au crayon ont été numérisés et la maison de fabrication a préparé la maquette en impression-3D. La fabrication de Six Formes a été dirigée pour Art Project, à Millery, près de Lyon. Les coffrages et moulages ont été réalisés à la main par IdBat à Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans (voir documentation de la fabrication, à droite.) Les « surfaces de raccordement » ont été bouchardées au marteau-piqueur (voir documentation de la méthode utilisée). Les six sculptures ont été fabriquées pour être installées dans une zone non protégée : pour résister au vandalisme, aux graffitis et accueillir les mousses et autres formes de végétation.
