The photo series Display Modern II (Hepworth) documents the construction of a cardboard replica of Barbara Hepworth’s Single Form, a massive bronze commissioned in 1961 for the forecourt of the United Nations Building in Manhattan. Display Modern II subtracts the urban context and material weight of Hepworth’s original in an experiment that tests the potential for pure form to act as a container for abstract ideas. This work also references the photo-conceptual process pieces of the 1960s and 70s.
